Nail Polish Review - KBShimmer Spring 2015 Collection

5 March 2015

Hi Everyone! It's been quiet on MLIT for the last few weeks but I am back and have a couple things lined up for all of you! It's March, which means it is almost Spring and that naturally means every nail polish brand has released a spring collection! But of course that is terrible for my wallet.

Today I have my picks from the new Spring 2015 Collection by KBShimmer... one of my favourite indie brands! The entire collection consists of 12 polishes but I didn't want three of the four holos in this collection. I still have 9 others though and continue reading for my thoughts on the collection! You can purchase any of these beautiful polishes from Harlow & Co, the only international stockist!

Overall Comments: I loved that this collection had so many glitter crellies... gorgeous! And they come in so many different shades of pastel and many of them even had tiny holo glitters! KBShimmer finally added a basic white to their line of creme polishes, many of which were released last year.

Blush Money
Colour: Coral Pink | Finish: Holographic | # of Coats: 3 | Topcoat: Yes | Rating: 8/10

Comments: This peachy rose coloured linear holographic polish is based on the 2015 Pantone colour, Strawberry Ice. The formula is a little thin, requiring 3 coats for full opacity. It is a beautiful pink polish that makes my fingers feel so elegant and pretty. It is very work appropriate (in fact, I have been wearing it for 3 days straight) but it still has something special with the sparkles. Don't purchase this polish for the holographic quality as it isn't very strong.

To Peach His Own
Colour: Peach w/ Lime Green, Gold, Violet, Magenta & Holographic | Finish: Glitter-Crelly | # of Coats: 2 | Topcoat: Yes | Rating: 8/10

Comments: This glitter-crelly has a pretty pale peach base with various sized hexagonal glitters in Lime Gree, Gold, Violet and Magenta. This polish also has very tiny holographic glitters that add a fun sparkle. The formula is great as expected and the mix of glitters is surprisingly pretty. It's a fun alternative for a nude polish for sure.

Sweet Egg-scape
Colour: Baby Pink w/ Aqua, Coral, Lavender, Red, White & Silver Holographic | Finish: Glitter-Crelly | # of Coats: 2 | Topcoat: Yes | Rating: 10/10

Comments: This glitter-crelly has a pale bubblegum pink base with glitters in different shapes, sizes and colors! It has aqua star glitters, coral triangles and hexes, lavender circles, red squares, white hexagons and silver holographic hexagons. It also has tiny red, white and holographic glitters. This is such a pretty polish... definitely my favourite! I love the combination of colours and shapes. It can work during Christmas time because of the candy-cane feel but it can also work during February/Valentine's Day because of the mix of pink and red. BUY IT!

I'm So Sweet Pea
Colour: Lilac w/ Baby Pink, Mint, Turquoise & Purple | Finish: Glitter-Crelly | # of Coats: 3 | Topcoat: Yes | Rating: 10/10

Comments: This glitter-crelly has a super pale purple base with various sized hexagonal glitters in baby pink, mint, turquoise and purple. It is a gorgeous mix of colours and it looks very pretty when worn. The base is so pale that it is hard to tell it has a purple hue in some lights. The very light base also means the formula is also sheer and required 3 coats for opacity. The baby pink glitters are such a nice surprise!

Meow or Never
Colour: Light Gray w/ Purple, Gray, Periwinkle & Sky Blue | Finish: Glitter-Crelly | # of Coats: 3 | Topcoat: Yes | Rating: 9/10

Comments: This glitter-crelly polish his based on the Pantone spring colour, Glacier Gray, and has a pale gray base. The glitters in this polish are smaller than the ones in the rest of this collection. The pale gray base mixes really well with the sky blue, periwinkle, purple and gray glitters. The smaller sized glitters give it a delicate and elegant feel. The gray is also a really good pick for rainy days this spring!

KBShimmer Meow or Never

Wind Swarm
Colour: Light Blue w/ Purple, Gold, White, Pink & Silver Holographic | Finish: Glitter-Crelly | # of Coats: 2 | Topcoat: Yes | Rating: 8/10

Comments: This glitter-crelly is based on the Pantone spring color, Aquamarine, with a pale sky blue base and a mix of small glitters in purple, gold, white, pink and some silver holographic micro glitters. It's a super baby blue polish with an odd mix of glitters. But the overall finish is quite nice.

Cool Hand Cuke
Colour: Mint Green w/ White, Pastel Yellow, Purple, Metallic Green and Fuchsia | Finish: Glitter-Crelly | # of Coats: 4 | Topcoat: Yes | Rating: 9/10

Comments: This glitter-crelly has a pale mint green base with a bunch of crazy glitter shapes in white, purple, green, fuchsia, pastel yellow and silver holographic micro glitters! There are large circles, triangles, stars, and hexes! This polish is super cute and is the colour of what cucumber milkshake might be, if that were a thing! The formula is extremely sheer and it needed 4 coats for opacity. And since the polish is so sheer, it was so hard to fish for the glitters. I worked for 10 minutes to pick up ONE white star glitter!

Funky Cold Patina
Colour: Turquoise-Green w/ Metallic Copper, Blue & Purple | Finish: Glitter-Crelly | # of Coats: 2 | Topcoat: Yes | Rating: 8/10

Comments: This glitter-crelly has a turquoise-green base with an odd mix of metallic hex glitters in copper, sky blue, dark blue and purple! You would think it's an odd mix of colours but it kind of feels right considering the metal copper gets this turquoise-green coating on it. In fact, the colour combination was inspired by an ancient copper statue that has turned blue green.

Eyes White Open
Colour: White | Finish: Creme | # of Coats: 2 | Topcoat: Yes | Rating: 10/10

Comments: A perfect white creme! It has a buttery smooth formula that is super creamy and pigmented. It is almost a one-coater but it was slightly patchy after the first coat but perfect after the second. With its high pigmentation, it would be perfect for nail art and maybe even stamping. I also really like the play on words... eyes wide open!

KBShimmer Eyes White Open

Overall, this is a pretty great collection and has a perfect mix of colours for this spring. Each glitter-crelly polish is curated so beautifully with an odd yet complementary mix of glitters in different shapes, sizes, colour and finishes.

My Top Picks: Sweet Egg-scape, I'm So Sweet Pea & Eyes White Open

My top picks are the ones that got a perfect score but none of the 9 polishes I swatched and reviewed today got a low score. Everything got an 8 or above! So be sure to pick up a few polishes from this collection. The only international stockist is Harlow & Co.
